February is gone and the year marches on. The month hosted numerous cultural events across Nairobi. From the bold and audacious 5th Instalment of the ‘Sex and the City’ art exhibition by Michael Soi and Thom Ogonga at Alliance Française. To the fun Open Studio Day at the GoDown Arts Centre in Kilimani, where art lovers hang out with some of Kenya’s best contemporary visual artists such as Dickens Otieno, Evans Yegon, Gloria Muthoka, Michael Soi and Peterson Kamwathi. Not to forget the ‘Anxiety: My Muse’ art exhibition by Naomi Van Rampelberg at the One Off Contemporary Art Gallery. For music lovers there were several live music events happening in various corners of Nairobi with performances by Winyo, Matt Ngesa, YABA, Ukoo Flani Mau Mau, Akoth Jumadi, and many others.
February also gave us the inaugural Kitale Film Week where a full week of films was showcased, art masterclasses taught, and workshops facilitated.
The month of love also saw numerous music releases from both established and emerging Kenyan artists. We have compiled a list of 20 Kenyan songs released in February 2023, which we couldn’t help replaying in the office.
