Mr Right and Ajay, popularly known as BURUKLYN BOYZ have been hot for a minute now. The drill rappers who come from Buruburu Estate in Nairobi, Kenya popularized the phrase ‘Kwani ni Kesho’. In 2022 the group was featured on Spotify’s RADAR program, which aimed to spotlight and aid in the discovery of emerging artists across the world. They were the only Kenyan group to be picked for the program and one of less than 10 performers from the African continent who were chosen for the opportunity. Others from Africa were Nigerian stars Ayra Starr, Victony and BNXN, South Africa’s DBN GOGO and Ghana’s Black Sherif.
Under the RADAR program, Spotify will promote the featured artist’s music on official playlists and offer the artists editorial support and other on and off-stage support across all regions.
In 2021, British music platform GRM Daily named BURUKLYN BOYZ one of the best drill music groups in the world to watch out for.
Tano Nane: An Ode to the Culture
BURUKLYN BOYZ’ famous ‘Tano Nane’ line is an ode to the 58 route taken by public transport vehicles that carry passengers between Nairobi CBD and Mutindwa, going through most of the 5 Phases of Buruburu Estate, where the group comes from.
